Bingipura landfill Miyawaki Afforestation
Bengalore, Karnataka

Dense, native forest created in Bingipura Village, Karnataka consisting of more than 50+ varieties of sapling species like Badam, Mango, Neem, Amla, Guava, Jamun, Kaner etc. This Forest is up to 25 times denser compared to conventional plantations, and has 30 times better for noise and dust reduction. An organic forest that sustains itself and supports local biodiversity.

Bingipura landfill was a stone mining ground for a long time and was 200-300 feet deep. Eventually, after some time between 2011 and 2013, they started disposing of waste in the landfill and filling it up; in the beginning, the government didn't take any proper measures for the people living around, resulting in the death of people living around. The foul smell caused by the waste went around a 5 to 7 km radius from the landfill, which became very difficult for people to breathe. Considering this, the government started taking proper measures to dispose of the waste by filling it layer by layer and filling soil in each layer. Finally, after almost a decade of filling, a park was constructed but left halfway, yet people come in to walk every day. We have chosen this location for the plantation to increase the green cover, make it eco-friendly for the people who come there and the people around, and increase biodiversity on that piece of dry land by mixing organic materials and fertilizing the soil. This location was chosen to bring back that area's lost flora and fauna and set up an ecological balance. Now, we are going to Bangalore's biggest Miyawaki forest with more than 60,000 saplings here with 40,000 saplings already planted The trees have been planted in the green belt area with the necessary approvals. Utmost care will be taken by the BBMP authorities to maintain these saplings and long-term sustainability.
